postcards

Just made up some postcards to send out to some production companies.  Hoping to do a few film set dates before the summer is out!  Also, we are already starting to book up the fall and winter if you can believe it.  I'd love to hear some feedback on these postcards for fine tuning.  Thanks!

12th street music festival :: sunday july 31

The West End Business Association is bringing back the 12th Street Music Festival and promises it will be twice the size of past years' festivals.

The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Sixth Avenue and 12th Avenue.

Some of the artists booked for this year's four stages include Sami Ghawi, Maffie and Crew, tribute band Really Rod Stewart, and Rainshadow.

Beyond the music, there will be a "festival of wheels," heritage tours hosted by Archie and Dale Miller and information booths set up by local community services.

The Kid Zone features pony rides, a dunk tank, a bouncy castle, craft making and its own stage with five kid-oriented bands scheduled to play.

Also back is the plethora of food options including a pig roast, ethnic foods and the popular Kiwanis cedar plank salmon.

Juice Caboose will be located in the Kidszone.  See you there!

{this moment} - A Friday ritual.  A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week.  A simple, special, extraordinary moment.  A moment I want to pause, savour and remember.

the bacon slicer

In just the two short months that we have been open, I have been asked many a time about the juice on our menu called the Bacon Slicer.  Why is it called that?  Does it actually have bacon in it?  Well for one, it most definitely DOES NOT have bacon in it.  In fact one thing that I don't mention often enough is that our menu is completely vegan.  Raw vegan to be exact.  So no, no bacon.

A Bacon Slicer is a train or railroad term.  In fact all of the menu items for the most part are named after railroads or railroad terminology.  A Bacon Slicer is a British slang term for a specific type of Cut-off which is a device used on a steam locomotive to close the steam valve and conserve steam.  Here is a photo of a gentleman 'prepping a bacon slicer'.  When I first saw the term Bacon Slicer I knew that it had to be the name for our green juice which is made of Greens, Apples, Lemon and Ginger.  The why is because greens are ridiculously good for you!  And me!  I once heard someone refer to greens as a 'bullet proof vest' for meats, meaning it's the best thing to eat with meat because it aids in its digestion.  It cuts the fat, or in this case it slices the bacon (without harming any animals!)

So please, drop on by at one of our events and try one out, it is by far the most requested juice on the menu.  A Bacon Slicer is a great start or end to your day.  It is also a great way to get in your greens if you haven't already got them in.  We have so far managed to only use local greens and apples in them and hope to continue to do so.  If you are looking for a kick in the pants, delicious drink, try our Bacon Slicer!

graffiti

I bought some Crayola Washable Markers the other night as I thought it would be fun for children (and adults too) to graffiti my Caboose.  I mean, what's a train without some graffiti on it?  And loved it, they did.  Once one person discovered they were free to draw on the giant white truck, many, many, many followed.  In fact they ran out of room and started drawing on the front and the back.  It was pretty cool.  Especially cool at how easily it all came off.  The blank slate returns.  Although the Crayolas won't be available at all our events we do have something else in mind for smaller children that I hope to introduce very soon that will mostly be a regular part of the Caboose.  Something I've been hoping to do since before the Caboose was up and running.

Thanks to all the little artists that tagged us at the Hastings Sunrise Summer Kickoff.  Remember only on the Caboose, nothing else!

Don't forget, Kitsilano Farmer's Market on Sunday July 10th from 10-2 pm.

a long, juicy weekend

What a weekend juice and smoothie lovers!  The sun finally graced us on Canada Day at Canada Place and we were thrilled to see it.  The fireworks were spectacular from what I could see.  We were happy to get out and see so many Vancouverites in one place!

Next day bright and early we hit the Chief in Squamish.  We are the first vendor to have taken up a spot at the base of the mountain.  The parking lot was full!  We were astounded by the many, many people hiking and climbing.  I personally really loved doing this particular venue and am really looking forward to getting the word out there that they are healthy refreshments waiting at the bottom as a well deserved post hike treat.  Or for some hikers that we met, a pre and post hike treat!  We have a few other dates booked this month (check the right sidebar under Upcoming Events) and we will be setting up some August dates soon.

Finally, we were so happy to make our way into the Vancouver Farmer's Markets circuit at the Kitsilano Market on Sunday.  The Farmer's Markets are the exact venue that I built this truck for and we hope to make ourselves more at home there in the coming months and again in 2012.  I was absolutely blown away but the amount of green juice that I pressed!!  Kitsilano sure does love their greens among many other smoothies that we poured that day.  Looking forward to next week's market and another sunny, smoothie filled day!  (Our dates at the Kits Market are also posted at the right sidebar.)

This Saturday is the Hastings Sunrise Summer Kickoff and we are really looking forward to it.  All 9 oz smoothies will be on sale for $1 off.  If you come out please bring some canned or boxed food goods for the Food Bank.
